I'm a born and raised Sunset Parker and Brooklynite. The son of a public school Secretary and hospital administrator, my parents found a second comunidad in Sunset Park after moving here from Puerto Rico with their families; my dad at the old courthouse, known then as the Luis Muñoz Rivera Center on 43rd St and my mother at her local school. For me, it was the Beacon program at PS 314. Sunset Park has welcomed countless of families looking for their community.
I'm running because I believe deeply in the power of our community. When voices come together, all voices, we can create meaningful change and opportunities for everyone. That's why I ran for County Committee in 2018, along with many of my neighbors.
But the Brooklyn Democratic Party hasn't made it easy to get involved or engaged; in fact, they've made it harder. Meetings are held with short notice and often in far off locations making it difficult for members to attend.
Further, back door rule changes make it difficult to hold County Committee leaders accountable. This is why I'm running for District Leader. We need leadership willing to speak truth to power, fight for transparent policies that make it easier, not harder to have a Brooklyn Democratic Party that reflects the engaged diversity of Brooklyn. I'm ready for this journey.
